Kaine said. “And I think the Democrats can do well, especially when Donald Trump’s tariffs are driving up their prices every day.”

...There will be inflation with the tariffs but no more than would happen with similar size tax increases. The difference being is that Trump acknowledges that there may be some inflation. Biden tried to "magic" the inflation into non existence. Dear Democrats, do not piss on me and tell me it's raining.

‘Why is Your Party So Staggeringly Unpopular?’ CNN’s Jake Tapper Confronts Senate Dem About Brutal New Poll

by Joe DePaolo

CNN’s Jake Tapper confronted a Senate Democrat with a devastating new poll showing the party’s dismal favorability rating with the public.

In an interview on CNN’s State of the Union Sunday, Tapper showed Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) data from the latest Quinnipiac poll, published Wednesday — which found just 31 percent of Americans have a favorable view of the Democratic party, while 57 percent have an unpopular view.

“Why is your party so staggeringly unpopular with the public?” Tapper asked.

Kaine cited long-term trends to argue that his home state of Virginia has flipped from “ruby red” to reliably blue. He then offered up a variation of James Carville’s famous axiom “it’s the economy, stupid” as a future blueprint for the party.

“Let’s return to the bread and butter basics that people want to really focus on,” Kaine said. “And I think the Democrats can do well, especially when Donald Trump’s tariffs are driving up their prices every day.”

Tapper responded by throwing cold water on the senator’s claims about the current state of Democratic politics in Virginia.

“I don’t want to get too in the weeds of Virginia politics, but your governor is a Republican and he beat handily a former Democratic governor when he ran for that position.” Tapper said.

“By 1.8 percent,” Kaine said. “The last two Republicans that won the governorship in Virginia won by comfortable double digits. Our governor is a Republican. He ran during a very good year to be a Republican, and he won barely.”

Added Kaine, the failed 2016 Democratic vice presidential nominee, “We have a governor’s race this year in Virginia. We feel really, really good about our chances…I think the governor’s race in Virginia, November 2025 will be the first bellwether test of a Democratic comeback. And I’m feeling really, really good about that right now.”
