Karoline Leavitt Just Delivered a Costly Message That Politico and Other Media Outlets Will NOT Like

http://twitchy.com/dougp/2025/02/05/karoline-leavitt-has-a-costly-message-politico-and-other-media-outlets-will-not-like-n2407898

As we told you earlier, Democrats are having more fits simply because the Trump administration, with help from Elon Musk's DOGE, have been exposing where taxpayer dollars have been spent via USAID and elsewhere.

The Dems say USAID is crucial to national security and global stability, but as it turns out the organization has in fact been largely important to Democrat security and stability. It's looking like millions and millions of taxpayer dollars have been sent via USAID and government agencies to select media outlets, including Politico, the New York Times and others in the form of purchasing subscriptions for gov't employees:

Liz Wheeler (@Liz_Wheeler) ~ The Politico scandal is worse than you think. It’s not $8M that Politico received from USAID. It’s $34.3M that Politico has received from various swampy federal govt agencies. Politico is, without a doubt, a totally corrupt propaganda arm of the swamp. Follow along below.

Nothing to see here, just U.S. government agencies handing out taxpayer money to media outlets that report on the government.

Ian Miles Cheong (@stillgray) ~ The US Government gave the New York Times tens of millions of dollars over just the past 5 years despite paying relatively little money to the NYT in the years preceding 2021. For instance, in August 2024, the US government awarded $4.1 million to the NYT.

The bulk of the funds came from the US Department of Health and Human Services at $26.90m, followed by the National Science Foundation at $19.15m

Kyle Becker (@kylenabecker) ~ It's not just Politico. The Associated Press has been raking in millions of dollars in government money for years. The AP's bias also makes perfect sense.

Trump press secretary Karoline Leavitt went to the White House briefing room today to remind some media outlets that this particular gravy train is over:

Townhall.com (@townhallcom) ~ @PressSec on Legacy Media outlets receiving funding from USAID:

"The more than 8 million taxpayer dollars that have gone to essentially subsidizing subscriptions to @politico... will no longer be happening. The @DOGE team is working on canceling those payments now."
Video ~ http://twitter.com/i/status/1887208928297296302

Joe Concha (@JoeConchaTV) ~ Good. These aren’t charities.

No, they're Democrat propaganda outlets.

The Dank Knight (@capeandcowell) ~ "Journalists" finding out live they’re about to lose their paycheck. This day can’t get any better.

At least now we know why one of the co-founders of Politico was so troubled by DOGE's efforts:

NeverTweet (@LOLNeverTweet) ~ Politico Co-Founder @JimVandeHei

“My message to @ElonMusk is: Bullshit — You are not the media.”

Apparently, USAID is the media.
Video ~ http://twitter.com/i/status/1887171657803923892

That makes even MORE sense now.

Perhaps not coincidentally Politico's staffers were reportedly paid late:

Politico staffers received their bi-weekly direct deposits late this week, irking staffers who believe Elon Musk’s crackdown on government spending played a role in the late payment.

Politico has received at least $8.2 million from the U.S. government in recent years, with $44,000 of that coming from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), according to USAspending.gov. Musk, the world’s richest man now in charge of Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), has announced plans to cut funding for USAID.

Where will losing all this USAID money lead for the affected media outlets? Stay tuned.

Are Taxpayers Keeping POLITICO Afloat to the Tune of MILLIONS? Sure Looks Like It - We Have the Receipts!

http://twitchy.com/warren-squire/2025/02/05/politico-funded-by-usaid-n2407881

Elon Musk and his DOGE auditors, at the direction of President Donald Trump, killed all spending coming out of USAID. Democrats lost their minds, of course. This was a threat to bureaucracy ... er, democracy. Yeah, that's the ticket! We were subjected to protests and flailing about from Dems all because a major government tax dollars spigot was shut off. Then something curious happened. POLITICO couldn’t make payroll. Wow, talk about a coincidence! Yep, we’re thinking what you’re thinking.

Here’s where we start.

Max Tani (@maxwelltani) ~ Staff at Politico did not get paid for the latest pay period. The company just sent several emails to employees saying it believes there was a technical error, and is looking into how to fix the issue.

Patty (@PATTYMAGA1) ~ This is a coincidence that USAid stopped paying at the same time, right?

Tammie Bella Williams (@TammieBellaWms) ~ Strange. Does this involve USAID?

It started half-jokingly. ‘USAID pays Politico, ha ha!’

Then users on X started digging and wouldn’t you know it - they found this!

Adam Townsend (@adamscrabble) ~ Politico 😮

Sunny (@sunnyright) ~ We do indeed appear to be funneling large sums of tax money to @politico so that some bureaucrats can read left-wing journalists complain about Republicans.

AND, so that left-wing bureaucrats can have leverage over what gets published in Politico.

Once you break it all down, dozens of payments are going to POLITICO. A dishonest, Democrat-loving ‘news’ publication is getting our tax dollars.

Here’s another example.

Rational Actor (@Eamon_of_X) ~ Sorry what? 37 people need a subscription to Politico, so it costs $517k??? Am I reading this right?! 😬
Uploaded Image

That's $13,996 PER F*CKING PERSON!!!

PaintSandRepeat (@SandRepeat) ~ When was it awarded? Only way I can think it costs that much (if it’s “legit”) is that it’s for say 2-3 years subscription.

Horsesh!t! Hell, even if it was a 10-year subscription, that's still $1,400 per year for 10 years! For a magazine subscription???!!!

Rational Actor (@Eamon_of_X) ~ {Replying to @SandRepeat} Yes, 4 years it looks like. Nevertheless, seems absurd!

"SEEMS"?

Again, there are a lot of these POLITICO expenditures.

We’re not sure why the National Park Service needs subscriptions to POLITICO or any media outlets for that matter. But, here they are.

FiredFed (@FiredFed1) ~ This is crazy. On just one randomly selected contract, Politico received $862,025 over four years in a no-compete subscription contract from the National Park Service. This is why Dems are freaking out about DOGE.
Uploaded Image

Ryan Duff (@ryancduff) ~ Great find! So, the fed agencies were spending hundreds of thousands to procure subscriptions to Politico, which really just funded a left-wing propaganda operation.

Krepperman (@KreppermanPrime) ~ A whole ecosystem of grifting off of federal dollars!

It doesn’t stop with POLITICO. Reuters got a sizable chunk of our money, too. Check it out.

TJ Brush (@xicbassix) ~ Check this one out. Almost $10,000,000 to Reuters for social engineering.
Uploaded Image

ProperGanja (@Nu_Tools) ~ Not surprising at all, considering Pfizer was one of USAID´s biggest recipients. The CEO of Reuters is on the board of Pfizer. 👇http://pfizer.com/people/leadership/board_of_directors/james_smith

Even overseas ‘news’ outlets are benefiting.

Corvus Honkteen (@Thalassathesea) ~ British based Financial Times ...

Laura Raimondi (@LauraRaimondi9) ~ So, that’s what happened to them! I used to love reading that paper. Then I wrote them asking why they were taking such a sudden and distinct slant on US news.

You can search all this for yourselves at this official government website below.

American Rose (@pearlecent163) ~ How about that! They don’t like that their money is going to be cut off.

We’d like to hear explanations from all these media organizations feeding off our tax money. These revelations explain why they were so united in their mission to deny President Donald Trump another term in office. Now we get to see if these outlets can survive with the spigot turned off.
