Dollars to donuts, Microsoft OneDrive is responsible. Your files are being exported to the Cloud.

Within the Start menu of whatever Windows version you're using, there's probably a 'Recent Items' listing that will show your file - unless too much time has passed. Failing that, you should be able to find it by doing a "Search" - also inside the Start menu. When you find the file, right click on it and look under "Properties" to see where it's being stored. When I have my sister do this, it's always under OneDrive.

I turned OneDrive off a long time ago. I'd suggest you do the same except that it might permanently block you from accessing all the stuff it's already got... so I don't recommend you do that. If you ever get a new computer though, turn off its OneDrive features immediately.

...the latest UPDATE is that I can create a file and then can't find it anywhere. Computer completely denies it's existence. If I try to create another file and give it exactly the same name it tells me I already have a file by that name. MIcrosoft at it's finest.
