Thanks De.

So it has nothing to do with being a "CHAT" platform?

So why did it get the name "chat"?

Its deceptively misleading... TKS!

Re: “I won't be getting on CHAT GPT.”
ChatGPT has nothing to do with social media. It just has a dumb name that makes it sound like it does.

ChatGPT is OpenAI's artificial intelligence program. It can do a lot of things that are just as stupid as social media, but lots of cool things too. My immediate interest is in seeing what it can do in the way of computer programming. I found when I was working with Access that writing VBA scripts to augment my media database's behavior was very powerful but also difficult (because there are tens of thousands of possible system calls VBA can do. Figuring out which calls to use for whatever needs augmenting can take days of research and experimentation. NOBODY knows them all.) ChatGPT may be able to quickly write scripts and functions.

Someone told me that he was able to code 25 times as quickly with ChatGPT's help. Someone else told me that, while ChatGPT can quickly write code, the code never works! So there must be a trick to using it correctly... probably having to do with giving it the programming specifications.

ChatGPT is also able to produce high-quality letters, essays, stories and pictures with extraordinary speed. I'm not sure whether I'll find a use for these abilities. But I *am* interested in how it might help me and whether I will find new and valuable applications for it once I start playing with it. That's how it sometimes works with me. When I first got the Amazon Echo (spy device), I didn't know what I'd use it for. Then I found its music, and its daily news updates, and its stock market updates, and its shopping lists, and its reminder service, and its calculator, and its ability to give me (sometimes wrong) answers on a wide range of topics. It's changed me and how I do things. I'd find it painful to go back. It has made me more efficient.

ChatGPT might be like that. On the other hand, it might be like a smart phone - which I don't have and don't want to have. The qualities I see smart phones bringing out in people are not qualities I want. So, time to learn about Artificial Intelligence. Will it make me better... or worse? Fortunately, I only need to spend $20 to start finding out. I don't need to commit to a full year in order to start using it.
