Perhaps culled chickens can still be eaten, in which case the immediate effect of culling them would be to lower the price of chicken in the stores.

Another reason that comes to mind is that it takes a while, more than one year I think, to replace a laying hen. But a meat chicken can be replaced in only three months.

How come no shortage and sky high prices on chicken meat? How come only chicken eggs? Did they only cull egg layers and not meat chickens?
If so, why? Do they think only egg layers get bird flu?
They’re a bunch of chicken houses around here. Tyson, Perdue and Mountian have processing plants here. I haven’t hear or see anything in the news about killing chickens because of the flu.
