We use to keep egg layers. About 15 years ago.
They don’t lay as many eggs in the wintertime. Some of them don’t lay eggs at all in the winter.
We had 12 at one time, but most of the time we keep 6 or 8.
We lost a few to raccoons. Skunks kill 8 of them one night. And a couple wild dogs killed two of them one time..
We bought them online once. I think they were 3 or 4 months old when we got them and started producing a month later. They sent them USPS in a cardboard box. Other times we’d buy them from the country store.
Easy to keep and we had tons of eggs. Gave eggs away all the time.
I’m not sure egg layers are very good as meat hens?
