Decomposed > Do you remember the three "Mystery Computers" I bought in 2023 for $100 each?

I vaguely remember the computers. I don't remember the OS's on them.

Were they laptops or desktops? And which operating system?

Yes, using AOMEI to copy a drive, then install on another computer does have driver issues. But my experience has been that the machine will still run . . well enough to install drivers. (Go to the manufacturer, see if the computer in question has drivers available for the intended OS on their machine. Download them.)

Don't want AOMEI to touch the OS and driver files? Don't need AOMEI for that. Just a USB stick or an external drive, copy the files off one computer and copy them onto the target computer. I dunno about 'copying' programs off the old computer and re-installing them on the target computer.

One of the things I learned back when I was working . . . For critical systems . . . (Or an all important Books database) . . . Make a 'backup' of the hard drive of the computer. Store it on an external drive. If the hard drive goes Ploooey . . Replace the bad hard drive with a new one, boot off an AOMEI boot stick and 'restore' the hard drive image to the new drive. Same computer, all data.

(It does help if one gets a spare drive, downloads AOMEI, and plays with it enough to get comfortable.)

The more important a computer or data is . . . the greater the need to have a backup and recovery strategy and the practice to implement it.

AOMEI can clone one drive to another drive. It can do a System Backup, a Disk Backup, or a Partition Backup. One can create bootable media - such as a CD/DVD or a USB drive.

Re: “Out of curiosity, De, did you install SSD drives in the computers for your books database? And, have you tried using AOMEI to copy and back up the entire hard drive - then install it onto a newer computer?”
Do you remember the three "Mystery Computers" I bought in 2023 for $100 each? Those are the machines. I'm not going to spend more getting SSD drives for them than I spent on the computers!

I haven't tried AOMEI either. That would require identical computers in order to avoid problems with drivers, etc, right? They'd be a good choice - but I didn't know about AOMEI when I was configuring them in 2023. Or are you thinking AOMEI would be a good way to get Office and Dragon onto a new computer? Hmmm. That might be good, though I'd still be concerned that the machine being copied to wouldn't work following the copy due to drivers. Is there a way to tell AOMEI to not touch the OS and driver files???.
