I think your old company had the right idea. Keep things (and people) that don't matter on computers that stay current. For the important stuff, stick to old operating systems that don't behave like thugs, breaking important applications every few years.

At $100 a year I am absolutely certain that it is NOT for me. (Yes, I'm a cheapskate.)
I have a very old version of Microsoft Office with a very old version of Access . . . on an XP based machine. And it does everything I need it to do.

My Win-7 machine has Libre Office on it. Word processing, Spreadsheets, and a drawing program. Add in the fact that Microsoft Paint is also on it and I got what I need.

With no 'annual fees'.
