WHITE PLAINS, NY — A Franciscan friar who went by several aliases, including "Dr. Phaakon Sonderburg-Glucksburg," "Paul HRH Saxe-Coburg-Gotha," and "Father Paul," was sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to wire fraud related to donations he sought for a fake medical charity in Lebanon.
The clergyman instead used the money to fund a secret lavish lifestyle with Hamptons getaways and cosmetic surgeries.
Matthew Podolsky, the Acting U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of NY, announced on Thursday that 48-year-old Paul Bielecki was sentenced to five years in prison for his yearslong scheme to obtain donations for a fake medical charity supposedly operating in Beirut, Lebanon. In addition to the prison term, he was sentenced to three years of supervised release, ordered to pay forfeiture of $563,448, and ordered to pay restitution.
