Hmmmmmm . . .
Makes for an interesting subject.

Search engines keep giving me the 'consumer manufacturers of tools . . But I did find this blurb :
>>>
In America, tools for making tools (toolmaking tools) include machinery like endmills, thread mills, drill mills, drills, taps, dies, reamers, and burs, as well as hand tools like hammers, picks, mallets, hatchets, and pry bars.

Machining Tools:
Endmills: Used for milling various shapes and features in metal.
Micro Endmills: Smaller versions of endmills, used for intricate details.
Thread Mills: Used for creating threads in metal.
Drill Mills: Used for creating holes in metal.
Drills: Used for creating holes in various materials.
Chamfer Mills: Used for creating chamfers (angled edges) on holes or surfaces.
Taps and Dies: Used for creating internal and external threads.
Reamers: Used to precisely size holes after drilling.
Burs: Rotating tools used for shaping and smoothing surfaces.
Countersinks: Used to create a conical depression around a hole.
>>>

I did not see lathes in that list.

Summit is at the forefront of this trend. Manufacturing our own American designs in Europe allows Summit to produce some of the heaviest-duty lathes available on the market. They feature wide beds, impressive horsepower, and can chew through the most intense chip loads with ease.

That is an interesting article.

Thanks for the suggestions, Zim. And I will look into those.

But I was thinking more of the companies, higher up the pecking order, which enable industrialization and building of other machines and tools. So snap-on builds their tools with WHAT tools? That is where I think the big money is likely to lie, as it is the bottleneck to re-industrialization.

Which reminds me of a quote:

Men have become the tools of their tools. Money is not required to buy one necessity of the soul. Most of the luxuries and many of the so-called comforts of life are not only not indispensable, but positive hindrances to the elevation of mankind.”
― Henry David Thoreau
