Now, with these ... uh ... similarities in exterior design ... some weak-minded PR person jest might have taken a little too much poetic license when it came to the term "crew."

the all-female crew

Am I the only one who questions the use of the term ‘crew’?

dictionary.com defines crew as: the people who fly or operate an aircraft or spacecraft

This refers to control of the craft. Flying IN an airplane is different than flying the airplane. I would suggest the same applys to ‘spacecraft’.

As for ‘spacecraft’ their flight was not as long or go as high as Alan Shepard in 1961.

Just my thoughts,
