Ok. I'll go with that.

The problem is -- it is almost impossible to do as a human. The fact is that we use "filters" to deal with almost everything in the world. If we don't do that we quickly become neurotic or something akin to autistic.

It simply goes against our neurology to not use a filter to categorize things to a very high degree ... it squanders a huge amount of energy.

And so if you assume nothing about government you are not likely to notice anything when things drift awry to the dark side.

So I don't think your ideal is practical, even if it sounds enlightened.

No. If you do that, you are as manipulated as the person who assumes government is never committing atrocities.

The logical policy is to avoid it. Since that's a practical impossibility, the next best thing is to not trust it. That's quite different from always assuming anything, good or bad, about it. It can't be trusted. Make no assumptions.
