No. That is not true.Re: “In World War II America and Russia were allies . . . Shortly after the war ended the Cold War began. As hard as it may be to accept, Russia and the Soviet Union are not the same country. You may as well talk about the early U.S. as if it continued to be England.

Russia has a long and bloody history of invading and subjugating neighboring lands.

In the early stages of WWII Russia and Germany 'made a deal' to divide Eastern Europe between them. (And I seem to remember reading somewhere that neither of them intended to be 'friends' any longer than necessary.) Their 'deal' ended when Germany invaded Russia.

In World War II America and Russia were allies . . . Shortly after the war ended the Cold War began. Complete with the 'Space Race', the 'Arms Race', and proxy Wars - Russia 'ordered' N. Korea to invade S. Korea. Russia was backing the N. Vietnamese. And we Americans financed the 'mujaheedin' to hand Russia a loss in Afghanistan.

We spent how many gazillions of dollars to keep Russia from invading Western Europe?

If Russia wanted peace with the rest of the world . . . All they had to do was not invade Ukraine in 2014. If Russia wanted to keep the Crimean Peninsula, all they had to do was NOT invade the rest of Ukraine in 2022.

If memory serves me correctly, back in the early 1990's Ukraine had several megatons of formerly Soviet Nuclear weapons. Russia promised never to invade Ukraine if Ukraine would surrender the nukes. Ukraine gave up the nukes . . . and Russia broke its promise not to invade.

Oh yeah . . your 'shopkeepers' and the other 'little people' in Russia probably do not want war and maybe are even apalled by what is happening in UKraine . . . but the 'little people' do NOT make policy in russia, do they?

Russia has imperialistic ambitions and can NOT be trusted.
