Huntsman backer: 'Being half black' doesn't qualify Obama

Lynn Forester de Rothschild, a former Hillary Clinton fundraiser who is now a major financial backer of the Jon Huntsman campaign, explains her opposition to President Obama in some … indelicate terms:
She said she is still registered as a Democrat, but considers herself independent and won’t support the party as long as Obama is president.
“America needs a president who understands the special sauce of what it is that makes this country great,” she said. “The fact of his personal story of being half black and all that is a wonderful, inspiriting story. But it doesn’t qualify him to be president.”
The comment echoes a common, 2008-vintage complaint among Hillary Clinton supporters that Obama – as Geraldine Ferraro put it – “happens to be very lucky to be who he is. And the country is caught up in the concept.”
But it’s three years later now and Obama actually is the president, so the comment from Forester (as she’s apparently called) seems both dated and out of step with a 2012 debate that has largely steered clear of Obama’s race.
A spokesman for Huntsman had no comment on Forester’s remark. Forester was the host of a Huntsman fundraiser in New York last week that the campaign said raised $1.2 million.
