I have never donated a single dime that was earmarked for my alma mater's library. Granted, I've donated a few thousand since I graduated 40 years ago to the Mechanical Engineering department since I feel I owed them, at least partially, for my professional success as an engineer and because of that, I've always held well paying jobs, so why shouldn't I give something back for what I received? But I look at my church in the same manner, I'm giving back for what I've received and for what I think that they can do with the money to help others less fortunate. Isn't that the whole idea of philanthropy?
