I don't know what he's thinking. Not knowing is NOT an excuse! Under Sarbanes Oxley, the CEO is responsible, PERIOD. Corzine was MF Global's CEO.

That doesn't cut it, if he doesn't know he should NOT have been in this position, its malpractice, at the very least!

Corzine `Stunned' to Learn of Missing MF Funds

Dec. 8 (Bloomberg) - Jon Corzine, former chairman and chief executive officer of MF Global Holdings Ltd., said he was “stunned” to learn on Oct. 30 that the company couldn’t account for “many hundreds of millions of dollars.” In a statement prepared for a hearing today for the House Agriculture Committee, Corzine apologized to investors, customers and employees of the failed New York broker and said he doesn’t know the location of the estimated $1.2 billion in missing client money. MF Global filed for bankruptcy protection on Oct. 31. Sheila Dharmarajan and Erik Schatzker report on Bloomberg Television's "InsideTrack." (Source: Bloomberg)
