In an interview Thursday with Fox and Friends‘ Brian Kilmeade, RNC Chairman Reince Priebus expressed strong skepticism about the Donald Trump moderated Newmax debate scheduled for December 27. “We appreciate what Mr. Trump has done, but if you’re still talking about potentially running as an independent candidate, I think that’s a problem,” Priebus quibbled. “I think that would be malpractice for me as an RNC chairman to not believe that that is an issue.”

“I think having a successful businessman serve as a moderator has a lot of value but the issue here is whether the moderator should still be a person who’s still batting around the idea of running as an Independent,” Priebus added. “I think that should give some of these candidates some concern.”
Priebus joins a growing chorus of commentators that have thrown cold water on the idea of having Trump host a GOP debate including Ed Rollins who cast doubt on the idea it would even happen.
