Here's another myth: We can bomb people into liking us.
If you've been listening to the Republican debates all the candidates (except Ron Paul) are totally ready to go at it with Iran.
Now, we just got done fighting in Iraq for nine years at total cost between $1 and 3 trillion (depending who is doing estimating). In my opinion, the Iraq war was a clear loss for the United States by every reasonable measure. More charitable people might conclude there might be some gains in the future, therefore it wasn't a total loss.
And of course we're still fighting in Afghanistan after a decade. We don't know what the costs will because we're not done yet. But at roughly $100 billion/year, "astronomical" is a pretty good estimate for the final total. And right now, we're basically at a stalemate. I'd say if you haven't won after ten years, you've lost.
And now they want to go after Iran? Words can't express how stupid and crazy that sounds. People who want to go to war in the Middle East are idiots, period.
