Wasn't this what Mitt Romney proposed as his 'solution' for the housing problem? Don't try to stop the banks from foreclosing or even helping the people save their mortgages, just get out of the way and let nature takes its course. And then once the housing market has hit rock bottom, allow investors, using cheap government loans I assume, to buy up the homes at bargain basement prices and then turn around and rent them back to the same families that used to own them at market rates. From Mitt's point of view, as a former venture capitalist, this seemed like the logical thing to do. Can you imagine him running the White House using that approach? Before invading Iran, he'll get a bunch of well-healed investors to put their money into a consortium which will guarantee to underwrite the venture for a final piece of the action when the administration 'cashes out' at the end (come to think of it, isn't this what Dick Cheney did with his 'Energy Taskforce'?).
