Thank you! Well, I guess way back never felt I had the money to toss about, none of the family or friends have either, other than those that blew it all out and faded into history... Even with Reno, Tahoe and Vegas fairly handy, we really just go for the shows, play a little on slots, to pay our dues and that's about it..

Sports has always been just my interest as a fan of local West Coast (NorCal) teams, Niners, Raiders, A's, Giants, Sharks, Warriors... Not into the Basketball or Hockey unless I happen to stray... But it's been a kick watching the SF Giants baseball, we've some serious family fans, I've only gone to a few games, don't care for the mob scene.. Raiders have been interesting, good, tough at times, mean, nasty at other times. Niners have been solid a long time, but had to do a lot of rebuilding once DeBartello's(owner) were out, Walsh gone, Montana/Rice are out, but now I think we have a great staff, team and should do Great! So, no, no bets, other uses for "spare" dollars as the 5 grandkids are our main focus.. Or maybe a few more trips overseas or...

Curious, are the numbers, spread, odds, set in Vegas back rooms or Atlantic City or ?? Who builds those numbers?

Seeing that GB was a favorite, some money must have been made by the few smart folks..

Interesting, but not tempting...

Weco:

How can you not be a football better?

Explanation:

Three betting lines are included: spread, total, and the money odds.

1. Point Spread: Patriots are a 7 1/2 point favorites over the Ravens. If you pick the Patriots you must win by more than 7 1/2 points to win your bet. If you choose the Ravens, the must win or not lose by more than 7 1/2 points. Ties (there obviously can not be a tie with a point spread that specifies a 1/2 point), with neither winning or losing (bet is nullified). You must bet $11 dollars for each $10 you hope to win. This 10% is the "vig" or the bookmaker's profit.

The 49ers are 2 1/2 point favorites over the Giants. If just went down from 3 points. If you bet it an hour ago you would have had to give 3 points. If you bet it now, only 2 1/2. It will contine to fluctuate up to game time.

2. The "Total" or over/under is a number representing total points scored by both teams in the game. You can bet under that total or over that total. again laying 11-10 odds.

3. The "money odds" or more commonly the money line, are two dollar numbers indicating how much you must bet to win $100 if you bet on the favorite, or how much you will win if you bet $100 on the underdog. No point spread is used. You could bet a $140 on the 49ers (the favorite) to win $100, or you could bet $100 on the Giants (the underdog) to win $120. The difference between $140 and $120 represents the bookmaker's profit. The money line is expressed as
-$140 +120.

I made a few bucks this weekend which made the results even more pleasing. Betting makes the games more interesting and tense, especially if the game is a rout. I don't bet very often, and only for relatively modest amounts, but I do talk with serious gamblers each week. Thirty years ago, I was a serious handicapper and a serious better.
