WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) - Newt Gingrich won South Carolina's Republican primary on Saturday night, networks projected, beating closest rival Mitt Romney following a series of feisty debates this week. Gingrich's victory hampers what had looked like a smooth path to the nomination for Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts. With three different winners for the first three nominating contests, the GOP hopefuls move on next to compete in Florida on Jan. 31.
