Shelly Adelson, a American casino owner worth over 20 billion dollars, gave 5 million dollars to Newt Gingrichs superpack. The superpack took the money and made a huge add buy in South Carolina and produced a video calling Romney, among other things, a 'vulture capitalist'.
Now think about the irony of a predatory Las Vegas casino owner funding a campaign that produces a video someone else a 'vulture capitalist'.
That add buy was fantastically successful and was instrumental in stopping Romney's momentum out of Iowa and New Hampshire and pushing Newt into the victors circle in South Carolina. Without that money, Romney would have cruised to victory in S Carolina and the race would be over.
Yesterday, Adelsons wife wired another $5 million to Newts superpack to be used for more add buys in the Florida primary. If Adelson is successful in buying the republican nomination for Newt through funding Newts superpack, expect the Las Vegas mogul to pony up $100 million or more for Newt to take on Obama.
Thank you Citizens United! The era of candidates trying for broad based funding is dying and we are entering the era where the .001% can buy elections, even presidential elections.
Shelly Adelson is also a stalwart of Benjamin Netanyahu. He has donated big money to Netanyahu over the years. He also started a newspaper in Israel called Yisrael HaYom that is free and has grown to the largest circulation of any Israeli newspaper. This newspaper is a virtual mouthpiece of the Netanyahu administration.
Adelson is aiding Netanyahu in overturning the possibility of a second term for Obama. He is among the extreme right wing of American secular Jewry and like Netanahu, he is against ANY territorial compromise with the Palestinians.
Now, does anyone wonder why the 'historian' named Newt Gingrich recently called the Palestinians an 'invented' people?
