Of course, *every* hurricane that makes landfall does so in a populated area these days...

...all hurricanes that make landfall do so on the coast. More of our coasts are populated these days and we also have satelite weather stuff where we get to see hurricanes that never make landfall. Many of the Bermuda Triangle mysteries are easily "splained" by hurricanes no one reported or lived to report. Another thing is that we haven't had the 24 hour news people chasing everything in the world down to give em something to talk about.

...we had a local tv station news guy covering some hail here in Georgia once. They switched to the "reporter in the street" who reported that the hail was as big as "golf balls". The newsguy in the station who always must have a follow up question, asked the street reporter, "What kind of dog?"

re: "Hurricanes that didn't make landfall in a populated area were never heard of."

Of course, *every* hurricane that makes landfall does so in a populated area these days...

For several years after Katrina, global-warming nuts were using it as evidence that hurricanes were growing stronger. They conveniently forgot that Katrina was only a THREE (on a hurricane scale that runs from one to five.) The devastation it caused was primarily due to its trajectory, not its power.
