Agreed. But I figured out quickly that public opinion was being manipulated by politicians and journalists, and that the truth was so obscured by rubbish that no intelligent conclusions about the altercation could possibly be drawn.
Any time a political party leaps into an issue that's best left for SMEs, it's a good bet that the public will be unable to ever discern the truth. Global warming is another great example. Scientists SHOULD have decided the matter. Instead, politicians were quick to take sides, at which point everything scientists had to say on the matter was influenced by the political pressures they were under.
Same for this Martin/Zimmerman thing. The legal system SHOULD have handled it. But once politicians took sides, the legal system's decisions could no longer be trusted. Zimmerman will PROBABLY be railroaded, despite every analysis I've seen saying that the case against him is very weak.
