You cannot prevent people from obtaining firearms if they want them bad enough. So, your simple-minded approach to limit access to firearms across the board means that the law-abiding citizens are unarmed and the criminals who manage to obtain firearms anyway, as a tool of their trade, are armed. They are already active criminals ... what do they care if they add one more crime of illegally obtaining firearms to their list, eh? Therefore, game over for the law-abiding citizen ... permanently. Nothing for the police to do but show up, after the fact, and call in someone to clean up the mess. Contrary to your pussified sensibilities, we would rather defend ourselves and take our chances that the resulting mess comes from criminal blood, rather than law-abiding blood.
