At the conference that I'm participating in this week in Las Vegas has a keynote address each morning. Today's speaker was Jane Oates, Assistant Secretary of Labor for Employment and Training. Her presentation was titled "Closing the Technical Workforce Gap - The Role of Academic, Government and Business Collaberation in STEM Education". Immediately following her presentation the conference split-up for the various tracks and she sat in on the Academic track where several different universities and community colleges whom Siemens has partnered with, made presentations about their programs using our software to train both engineers as well as technicians. I got a chance to talk to her briefly about some of her comments about how it was going to even more important that we encourage young women to pursue STEM educations, something that we have hope for with respect to at least a couple of our granddaughters. It was a very good and non-partisan presentation, although when she was talking in our smaller group you could tell that she was concerned that the election could be make or break for many of these education programs aimed at remaking our future workforce so that they can compete in a global economy based on new technologies. I assured here that I was personally doing my part to keep her boss in his job
