One of a teacher's jobs is to maintain a solid reputation in the community. If the community feels that signing a petition to recall the governor harms that reputation, then the teacher has failed in this responsibility.

It's one of the worst things about the teaching profession, imo, but that's how it is. It's one reason I would not consider being a teacher. It effectively means that you must keep a low profile in your community as far as PROTEST goes.

Tough break for these Wisconsin teachers. They should have used better judgement.
