KTC,

It was just announced that the national average price of a gallon of regular gasoline is 14 CENTS LOWER than it was a year ago at the start of the Memorial Day weekend.

And as to your comment about the wildfires in upper Michigan, while I've been through Newberry many times, I never lived near there. Now that being said, if the fire is burning anywhere to the West of Newberry, it'll take another 10 or 15 thousand acres before we'd be up to a monetary loss of more a $100 or so ;-) Several years ago there was a fire not all that far from there (and yes, it was WEST of Newberry) that the state just allowed it to burn and only stood by to intervene if and when it threatened private property or was interfering with traffic on the highways. In many parts of the UP (Upper Peninsula) if it's determined that the fire started naturally, from say a lightening strike, the default policy is to let it burn as long as it doesn't threaten private property (most of the UP is state or federal land in pretty much a natural state except where some logging has taken place years ago).

OCU:

What do you figure moved that index upward so dramatically?

FYI

NEWBERRY, Mich. (AP) — A wildfire in Michigan's Upper Peninsula has nearly doubled in size, consuming an estimated 17,000 acres.
