Riana,

re: "And if they failed to get that in the K-12 arena, that's the fault of the school system."

Only because such kids should never have graduated beyond about 2nd grade.

The fault when a kid is illiterate lies with the parents and the kid himself, NOT his schools. The schools are supposed to teach. The kids are supposed to learn. And the parents are supposed to tan their kids' hides if they don't learn.

You know, we can get the information straight from the horse's mouth. zzstar? Who deserves the blame for what happened to you?

Re: I wonder if the kids on sports scholarships fall in that category?
Often, yes. And they shouldn't. I have no issue with someone getting a scholarship to go to college school because they happen to be a good athlete. But good grief - they should know the basics. And if they failed to get that in the K-12 arena, that's the fault of the school system.

How Obama managed to get through college, and later law school, without a decent background in history, is particularly disturbing, because he is now in a position to make us ALL look stupid with an uncautious (and unresearched) remark.
