For two excellent reasons: (a) jobs, and (b) reduction of crude oil imports from other countries, many of whom are not our friends.

We are exporting more refined fuels because we are one of the world's largest refining countries, but you are trying to compare apples and oranges because crude oil and refined fuels are not the same thing.

We are currently exporting more refined fuels than we have done in many years. If we have enough excess capacity to start being a major EXPORTER of petroleum products, how is it that we need to start drilling for even more oil? We're obviously not able to use all that we're producing now, so why drill for more? Who's going to benefit? Certainly not the average driver if we're already selling what we can't use now.
