Attorneys: Accused Ga. cop killer mentally unfit
ATHENS, Ga. (AP) -
Defense attorneys for a man charged with killing an Athens-Clarke County police officer last year say the suspect is incompetent to stand trial.
A Friday hearing for Jamie Hood was cancelled by a judge after defense attorneys filed a motion seeking a proceeding to determine his competence.
The Athens Banner-Herald reports prosecutors opposed any further pretrial delays, saying Hood's lawyers were simply using them as a stalling tactic.
Hood is charged with the March 2011 shootings of officers Elmer "Buddy" Christian III and Tony Howard. Christian was killed and Howard was seriously wounded. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.
As he surrendered on live television last year, Hood was heard saying: "I regret killing that officer."
...no asshole, you just regret getting caught.
Liberals are like a "Slinky". Totally useless, but somehow ya can't help but smile when you see one tumble down a flight of stairs!
