"Then you're in the minority."

Speaking of minorities ... the last Dallas mayoral race was contested among 4 candidates, 3 of whom were big, well-known, well-financed movers and shakers. I voted for the fourth guy because he came across as a practical-minded, no-nonsense person who wasn't trying to put the needs of one constituency over that of another ... even though I knew he didn't have a snow ball's chance in hell. The final tally was:

1st place big guy - 28,419 votes (40.87%)
2nd place big guy - 22,214 votes (31.94%)
3rd place big guy - 17,428 votes (25.06%)
4th place guy - 1,474 votes (2.11%).

I was one of the 1,474. And this factoid might make clo's head spin 360 degrees on its axis, but my candidate was a black man. Mr. Okpa's race was completely meaningless to me, but I know that skin color is an all-consuming factor to her.

The first two then squared off in a runoff election, and if I remember correctly, I blew off voting in that one ... 'cuz it was just going to be the same ol' %&#@ either way.

re: "Oh, that is exactly what I do"

Then you're in the minority. I can't tell you how many times I've heard someone say, "Oh, I like Xxxxxx but he can't win."

That's laughably bad reasoning. As we all know, McCain couldn't win either. Almost everyone knew it, but Republicans voted for him anyway. There's hive mentality for you. Sheep-think.

My Ron Paul vote was FAR more important than their John McCain vote. 50 years from now, no one will know who John McCain was. But I bet Ron and the movement he essentially started will be remembered.
