Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward: Nixon was worse than we thought

Near the end of this rather fascinating article we find this paragraph:
Nixon had lost his moral authority as president. His secret tapes — and what they reveal — will probably be his most lasting legacy. On them, he is heard talking almost endlessly about what would be good for him, his place in history and, above all, his grudges, animosities and schemes for revenge. The dog that never seems to bark is any discussion of what is good and necessary for the well-being of the nation.
Has ANY Republican ever cared two hoots about what is "good and necessary for the well-being of the nation"? Not in recent history, for sure. Certainly not within my memory - perhaps with the exception of Eisenhower.
One of the interesting comments following the article:
[b]Classic Nixon moments involving conservative icons/modern Republicans, part 3, my personal favourite, involving Fred Malek, a major Romney fundraiser and supporter. Fred Malek, the guy who hosted Anne Romney's birthday this year.
Yes, Fred Malek, the guy dispatched by Richard Nixon to identify and punish Jews at the Bureau of Labor Statistics, where Nixon thought a "Jewish cabal" was working against him. Because their employment files didn't list religion, Malek had to guess who was Jewish. He drew up a list of Jewish-sounding names and proceeded to harass, demote and transfer those employees.

When Malek's Jew-hunting past came out in the media in 1988, revealed by the Nixon Tapes and Nixon Library, he resigned as deputy chairman of the RNC so as not to embarrass the GHW Bush campaign.
Evidently the Romney campaign has no such moral compunctions about using Malek, even though he's since added fraud and attempted grand theft from the taxpayer to his resume.

Malek was also arrested as a young man for killing and roasting a dog in a park.
You can see Malek quoted in the Post from time to time, acting as a Romney surrogate. In one hilarious appearance on MSNBC, he scolded voters who wouldn't vote for a Mormon. "It would be a sad day in America if we’re gonna elect somebody based upon their religion or vote against somebody based on their religion," said the man who formerly worked to chase Jews out of the federal Govt.

How could anyone vote for a Republican?
How?
