Most liberals I know enjoy reasonable careers with good benefits and salaries. They generally are pleased with this situation, as was I. They have few financial expectations beyond additional modest investments in home and market. We're having dinner with a liberal couple this evening at their home. They've been friends since childhood. The man is interesting. He struggled to get his two degrees (hockey scholarship), and took a job teaching math at a community college. He supplemented his income by starting, then leading, a data processing dept at the school. He actively refereed hockey games for additional income, and coached the Harvard University golf team. He also worked part-time for me as a salesman for twenty years. His wife stayed home to raise their five kids, then earned her master's degree and joined him in college teaching.
They have had successful, pleasing lives, and constantly look beyond themselves to assist those in distress or need a helping hand.
