...the only reason our criminals carry guns is to defend themselves in case they are attacked by law enforcement officials. Iffen we disarmed our cops, the criminals wouldn't carry guns either.

OMAHA, Neb. — Authorities say a man held hostage for hours by a gunman in a western Nebraska drugstore has escaped but was wounded while getting away.

The gunman is holed up in the store alone and that police are trying to negotiate for his surrender. He says police found a body Tuesday in a nearby home, but he declined to say whether it is related to the standoff.

Rogers says the gunman shot and wounded two city police officers and a state patrol officer.
