No, killthecat ... the real Christian thing to do is to reduce government to what it is actually authorized to do - to defend the country and its citizens against external threats; to secure its citizens' rights to life, liberty, and property; to ensure peaceful coexistence and cooperation among the various states and the citizenry; to establish a system of justice to punish those who engage in unlawful behavior; and to promote the general welfare among the citizenry through equal opportunity for all citizens. "Social policy," whereby the rights of some citizens are compulsorily diminished in order to increase the rights of other groups of people is NOT the domain of government, period ... charity is solely up to the people and can only truly come from the people, not a government that seeks to enforce what it deems to be "charity."
