...and when another soldier says, "I got your back" ya might wonder what he means.

Liberals are like a "Slinky". Totally useless, but somehow ya can't help but smile when you see one tumble down a flight of stairs!

I dunno Clo. I did two tours in the Army. Close quarters and macho attitudes (kinda needed) may be impacted by serving with openly gay men in close physical surroundings. I fear the ruling was more about gays than the military, just as gay marriage was more about gays than marriage. Lesbians don't seem to present the same concerns.

On a much more positive side, I also did one college summer as the only straight waiter in a restaurant in gay Provincetown. My girlfriend was the cocktail hostess. Once we were recognized as straight, I was accepted and welcomed with legitimate friendship from all the gays in the restaurant and in town. It was one of the best hippy-type summmers of my life, although it wore on me by early August.

I've associated with gays all my adult life with no problems that I can recall. Boston is pretty open-minded. I'm concerned about redefining marriage, the building block of our society, and maintaining a sound military, not in discriminating for or against gays. It's walking a vary narrow line.
