ktc,
re: Approx 77% of Americans think that Congress isn't worth a shit.
What makes you think that Americans would respect Congressmen and women elected by others? It's natural to hate Congress. Only 0.3 percent of it, on average, represents and was voted for by any given person. (3 out of 535 in Congress. And since we pretty much have just two Parties, only half of those 3 were supported by a given citizen supported. Hopefully I got the numbers and math right. 0.3 percent)
Although we keep hearing that Americans think Congress is doing a lousy job, you'll find that Americans nearly always think their own Congressmen are doing awesome jobs. In November, just watch as nearly all incumbents on the ballot get reelected.
My point, in case you aren't following it, is that the pollsters are asking the wrong question. They shouldn't be asking about OTHER FOLKS' representatives in Congress. They should be asking what folks think of their own Congressmen. That would give a result that actually meant something.
