We have a nephew who lives in Duluth and I just got an email from him this morning letting us know that except for some driveway damage, he's come through the recent flooding with his feet still pretty dry, however where he works has been impacted since he's a dispatcher for freight forwarding company and much of their stuff came into their warehouse via rail and several railroad bridges have been wiped-out so he's not sure how long it will take to restore their incoming flow of goods. He says they can make most of their deliveries IF they have stuff to actually deliver.
That being said, I like the comments he made on where the responsibly for this recent series of storms which caused all the flooding may lie. From his email:
There are currently three working theories behind what caused this tragedy:
1.) Act of God and the end is drawing near. No one saw Noah float by with a bunch of twoseys, so I think we’re good for a little while yet. No one died or was seriously injured…so this won’t help much for that argument, nor will Steven Spielberg likely get a script anytime soon for the next Hollywood Armageddon movie.
2.) Global Warming. Yes, a glacier suddenly melted overnight north of Duluth, sucked itself up into a cloud, and BLAM! here we go. Interestingly enough, we needed this rain to get Lake Superior’s level back up, as they were historically low, which was also blamed on Global Warming…just can’t keep those folks happy can you!?
3.) S__T HAPPENS – That’s the working theory of quite a few of us!
