The number of people who identified as black, either alone or in combination with one or more other races, in the 2010 Census. They made up 13.6 percent of the total U.S. population. The black population grew by 15.4 percent from 2000 to 2010.

It's never been nearly that high.

Per Wikipedia, whites make up 63.7 percent of the 2010 U.S. population, hispanics/latinos make up 16.3 percent, and all other races including blacks make up 19.9 percent. That's probably what you're thinking of when you say 20 percent, but you're forgetting about the 5 percent each of Asian and "other race" going into that 19.9 percent figure.

The actual black percentage in our country is 12.6. I'll grant, no one would ever think it was nearly that low based on how much attention blacks receive from our media, from racists like clo and OCU, and from our prison system.
