First quarter sales tax collections rise in Lower Hudson Valley

Lower Hudson Valley sales tax collections rose 4.5 percent for the first quarter of the year when compared to a year earlier, although they dipped in Rockland County, according to new figures from the New York Department of Taxation and Finance.
In Westchester's major cities, the quarlerly sales tax collections rose as well, with significant gains in New Rochelle (11.46 percent increase); Yonkers (9.4 percent increase) and Mount Vernon (8.7 percent increase).
White Plains posted a modest 1.71 percent increase for the quarter, but March's monthly collections actually dropped 6.49 percent.
This database shows the monthly taxable sales by county and city since 1990. Taxable sales are a broad measure of commerce subject to sales taxes.
