"It's getting harder to get drivers," says Mike Card, president of Combined Transport of Central Point, Ore., and incoming chairman of the American Trucking Associations. "I could hire 50 guys right now." He now employs 393 drivers.

If you are a driver for one of the big truck companies, they don't want to pay you when you are stuck in traffic. If you are scheduled to be somewhere at 8am and you are ontime and the folks there don't get ya unloaded til 8pm they don't want to pay you for that either. If yer dead heading back they don't want to pay ya for that. It's not uncommon for a driver to work 70 hours in a week and not get paid but for about 35.
