...ya can make good money as an independent owner operator. That's a bidness Im sorta invested in right now. Ya don't have other folks out tearing up your equipment and ya don't have to sit around all day waiting for folks to unload the truck cause ya charge for that time too

Yep, one of my brother's brothers-in-law was a trucker. It's not easy by any stretch of the imagination. He owned ... well, he and the bank owned ... his own rig, but he lost it simply because he wasn't a personally responsible adult, which, unfortunately, wasn't too terribly unpredictable in his case.
