BTW, I was reading through old messages and thought this last post of mine (the one I'm replying to) could use a little improvement. In particular, I want to make it clear that my folks were NEVER "welfare trash."
We lived for a year in a trailer... had no bathroom except for the one on the other side of the trailer court... had no TV, no running water except for a hose outside... In the winter, I remember the walls being coated with a layer of ice from our breath. We'd look with envy at Loretta Lynn and her kinfolk, showing off their fancy new duds whenever they had birthdays.
But we never had the stigma of welfare. My father had several jobs that year. We had plenty of food and were well dressed, and did just fine.
What I'm really pointing out, I guess, is that the impression I might've given that my family was "welfare trash" isn't true. I don't care if anyone here knows I lived in a trailer for a year. I don't care if anyone here knows that, at one time, my family had next to nothing. But welfare is obscene. I don't want anyone here thinking I had THAT in my background!
No. We were always decent folks. No welfare.
