Zimbler,

re: "What I might consider to be a 'fire breathing conservative' would not want to spend public money on the National Parks"

National parks are one of the most obvious embodiments of what it means to be a Conservative. Where do you think the word comes from? Conservatives CONSERVE.

What you've written doesn't surprise me. Republicans are not very "conservative" any more, and not many give thought to what the word means.

Your answer should be "conservatives,"

Actually,
What I might consider to be a 'fire breathing
conservative' would not want to spend public
money on the National Parks . . . .

Where-as the uber-liberals would spend gazillions of
dollars outfitting the National Parks so's every
paraplegic and half wit would have their very own
taxpayer funded personal tour guide.

Those of us in the middle . . . I like National Parks
(though I would call myself a conservative). But
moderation in all things.

We should have National Parks. They should be
'accessible'. they should also incorporate large
swaths of 'wilderness' and 'We' should not be spending
ungodly amounts of money just so some tiny fraction of
the populace can get there.

Zim.
