The story is that the reason someone even brought up the issue of her birthday was that her 'official' published bio at the time showed the 1963 date. This is what led to the question about the claim in her autobiography, which if I recall correctly, also stated that she was born in 1963, concerning her voting for Reagan in 1980. It was reported that immediately after the interview where this issue was first brought up, she changed her bio to show the 1961 date, but the only official public record that has ever been checked by someone was her drivers license which shows the 1963 date. And as I said, she's always asserted that her birth certificate was off limits.

Looks like she was 19 at the time, 18 was the legal age.
