Colonial rights versus a centralized government (British or the envisioned USA) were a major topic of concern long before the Revolutionary War In Massachusetts. We Massachusetts' patriots were in opposition to British rule while you red staters were still sucking on King George's toes, which you continued to do through most of the Revolutionary War. Seems like we've been dragging your dead asses around for centuries.
