We had my son's Camry in for repairs this week, so beyond the cost, I had a chance to talk to my mechanic, told him my tale... He knew it right off, the amount of pressure in the interlocked gears it tremendous.. Al you are trying to do is make them slide a little, but the bump of the power steering pump did a nasty... No damage, but good to know, be aware, hard steady pressure will release it, eventually... I figure I save a ton of hassles, a few bucks...

Son't repairs came to $1600... Early Xmas present! Now we need to be sure maintenance is done... Cheaper if we pay it...

Same exact thing happened to me about 3 years ago with my Chevy Blazer. I never knew to try any sort of extraordinary wheel wrenching. But in end it cost less than I was originally quoted to fix it, they didn't need to issue me a new key and I haven't had any problems since.
