ribit, it is more about luck and someone doing something that most would think stupid. A heavy, strong cane to the back of his head or neck would probably have worked. But not too many people think like that in a time of crisis.

...it isn't likely that anyone would have been carrying a gun that would penetrate that kevlar stuff. A .44 mag might not have penetrated the armor, but then a city bus wouldn't have penetrated it either, but it would still kill him.
