I own what is technically an 'assault rifle', which I purchased for deer hunting, an M1 30-cal Carbine (a great little gun for hunting where your shots are generally short range such as in the forest and swamp areas of Northern Michigan, where I'm originally from) and while it came with a pair of 15 round military magazines, I had no problem whatsoever buying 5 round magazines so as to make it legal for hunting in Michigan (auto-loading rifles are limited to 6 rounds, 5 in the magazine, one in the chamber).

Oh, now that's a stretch. I don't buy that high-capacity magazines are constitutionally protected. You *can* get smaller magazines for AR-15 rifles - I think as small as 5 rounds, in fact. They are just a lot harder to find. The 'high-capacity' magazines are what the military uses (of course, their M16s are fully automatic, so a larger capacity magazine can actually be helpful in a firefight). As such, they are very common and readily available.

The problem lies in what constitutes a high-capacity magazine. Who gets to define that? As I said in a previous post to clo, if the arbitrary limit is set to 10 rounds, and someone fires all 10 shots, killing someone with the last shot, then suddenly 10 rounds is too many - we have to go to 9. And so on.
